Every US airline sells an "extra legroom" product, but they are not equivalent. United Economy Plus gives you extra inches, and not much else. Delta Comfort+ comes with free drinks and priority boarding, but it usually costs a lot more. American MCE starts at $20 and includes free alcohol. Alaska Premium Class starts at $15 with leather Recaro seats. Southwest's new Extra Legroom includes premium beverages. JetBlue split its product into two tiers, and only the more expensive one includes the full set of perks.

Medium domestic (3–5 hrs)

International

Frequent flyer (10+ flights/yr)
Per-flight economics favor subscription. E+ availability is highest among US carriers. But spend doesn't earn PQPs — per-flight purchases do.
Tall (6'+)
Maximum legroom (37–39") + full recline. Avoid the first exit row — no recline on most aircraft.
Budget priority
An empty middle seat often feels like a bigger win than 3 extra inches of legroom in a full E+ section.
What experienced travelers know
United E+ is mostly just legroom
No drinks, no boarding priority, no bins. You're mostly paying for the extra space. Every other airline includes at least free alcohol.
Delta C+ is almost always full
Medallion members get auto-upgraded — Diamond at booking, Gold at 72 hours. If you pay cash, you may still end up sitting near people who got the same seat through status.
JetBlue has TWO products now
"EvenMore" (front, with perks) ≠ "Extra Legroom" (mid-cabin, legroom only). Know which you're booking. The naming is confusing enough that it's easy to book the wrong thing.
Southwest reduced standard legroom
Standard economy dropped from 32" to 31" fleet-wide to fund Extra Legroom. In practice, part of the "upgrade" is paying to get back legroom that used to be standard.
